Elliott’s Three Stakes Lead to His Selection as Jockey of the Week
Veteran rider Stewart Elliott, at 59 years old, was recognised as the leading rider at Remington Park for the second consecutive year. He concluded the Thoroughbred meet on a high note, achieving three stakes victories and earning the title of Jockey of the Week from December 9 to December 15, a recognition bestowed by a panel of racing experts.
This honour highlights the significant accomplishments of jockeys who are members of the Jockeys' Guild, which represents a large number of active and retired jockeys throughout the U.S. Elliott's successful night began with a win in the Jim Thorpe Stakes aboard Red Mountain, where he edged out his competitors to finish first in a race for three-year-old Oklahoma-breds. He continued his success by piloting the favourite, Glee, to victory in the Toby Keith Stakes for two-year-old fillies, winning by a commanding margin.
Further on, he claimed a third victory in the She’s All In Stakes with Flashy Lass, solidifying his impressive performance. His total of 91 wins throughout the meet exceeded that of his closest rival by 37 victories.
Reflecting on his achievements, Elliott expressed his gratitude for his successful partnership with Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen. He has had an illustrious career that began in 1981, with his notable ride on Smarty Jones in the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness.
