Equine Herpesvirus Case Confirmed in Ontario Standardbred
The Equine Disease Communication Centre (EDCC) has released a statement confirming a case of Equine Herpesvirus in a Standardbred horse situated in Ontario.
Situated in Middlesex County, Ontario, a two-year-old Standardbred colt exhibited signs of a fever on February 29, leading to its admission to a referral hospital on March 3. The horse presented with mild ataxia and bladder paralysis. A nasal swab test conducted using PCR confirmed the presence of EHV-1. Currently, the horse is under voluntary quarantine and is on the path to recovery.
A veterinarian is collaborating with relevant parties to enforce stringent biosecurity measures in response to the situation.
