Ex-Woodbine Racers Set to Compete in Guyana Handicap Event this Sunday

The upcoming Guyana Handicap event at the Rising Sun Turf Club in Berbice promises to be an exciting spectacle, with four horses boasting ties to Woodbine set to compete.

Among the notable entries for the Mashramani Horse Racing Meet, which is being presented by the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee on February 25 in Guyana, are Bossalina, Easy Time, Stolen Money, and Phil In Echo.

These equine contenders will vie for top honours in the lucrative $4 million Guyana Handicap, set at a challenging 1600 metres on the race card at the prestigious Rising Sun Turf Club in Berbice.

Bossalina, sired by Street Boss, showcased her talent by clinching victory in the Sino Truck Sprint Classic on January 1, where she triumphed over the 2023 Horse of the Year, Spankhurst. This seven-year-old mare, a former three-time winner at Woodbine under trainer Dave Cotey, has now taken her skills to the Guyana circuit.

Meanwhile, Easy Time, a six-year-old offspring of Not This Time, claimed glory at the Grade 3 Marine Stakes at Woodbine under the ownership of Breeze Easy and trainer Mark Casse. In 2023, he secured victory in the prestigious Guyana Cup. Joining the ranks of these formidable competitors is Stolen Money, a grey progeny of We Miss Artie, who impressed by winning four out of ten races in 2023 at Woodbine, with two victories for Bushlot Farm under the guidance of trainer Danny Yu. Stolen Money made his Guyana debut during Bossalina's Sprint Classic triumph, finishing a commendable second.

Lastly, Phil In Echo, a five-year-old mare by Society’s Chairman, is poised to make her debut in Guyana. Hailing from Ontario and bred from the mare Northglen by St Jovite, Phil In Echo, owned by Bushlot, has notched two victories in a total of 24 races, bringing a mix of experience and potential to the track.
