Forbidden Treasure attracts everybody’s attention

Forbidden Treasure made a triumphant start to Grand River Raceway's harness racing season, winning the inaugural race around the new five-eighths of a mile oval with a time of 2:00.4. Piloted by Bob McClure, Forbidden Treasure led from the front, controlling the pace with splits of :29, 1:01, and 1:31.1 before crossing the finish line two lengths ahead. Trained by Katie Graham and owned by Steve Mihalic, this victory marked Forbidden Treasure's first career win and set the tone for the season at the renovated Elora, Ont. oval.

Despite rainstorms threatening the track just before the fifth race, the new surface held up well, impressing drivers like Anthony Haughan. Grand River Raceway saw a record-breaking opening day handle, with $404,071.39 wagered on the night, signalling a promising start to the season.

Throughout the summer, Grand River Raceway will host 48 Standardbred race nights, including 18 Ontario Sire Stakes (OSS) events, from June to September. Specialty race nights, such as Wiener Dog Races and Industry Day featuring the Battle of Waterloo presented by Winbak Farms, promise unique entertainment experiences for attendees.

In addition to the racing action, Grand River offers free family fun on race nights and VIP experiences on The GrandWay Patio. The GrandWay Events Centre, located next to Grand River, also hosts various events throughout the summer, including Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Nights and Murder Mystery Dinner Theatres.
