Friday Marks the Beginning of Harrah's Philadelphia Meet

Friday, April 12, marks the opening of Harrah's Philadelphia's 19th season of live harness racing, which will consist of 14 races.

The top purse of the day is USD 12,500 for distaff pacers in race six, while the highest-priced claimers will compete in four races.

After Opening Day, Harrah's Philadelphia will race Thursday and Friday at 12:25 p.m. and Sunday at 12:40 until June, when Wednesday 12:25 cards will be added.

Team Orange Crush and Team Tetrick/King swept Philly's second qualifying before its opener. Andy Miller and Julie put out three winning three-year-old trotting fillies, partially owned by Andy Miller Stable Inc.: Green Mercedes, a 1:54.3 winner last year, won alone in 1:56.2, while career debutantes All Green (1:59.4) and Vivacity (Muscle Hill, 2:00.1) also won. Team Orange Crush junior Tyler Miller, the catch-drove elder, paced Hurrymiki Hanover to a 1:57.1 win.

After winning four qualifications at Philly on Friday, defending driving champion Tim Tetrick doubled Tuesday with Jim King Jr.-trained three-year-old Captaintreacherous sons. The gelding Fig Newton set the pace and came home in 56 and:27.1 to stop the timer in 1:57.3, while the colt Lyons Benjamin, a Pennsylvania All-Stars winner at two, surged home to win in the same time in:55.1 and:26.3.
