HISA Forms Veterinary Advisory Committee to Strengthen Equine Care
The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) has established a Veterinary Advisory Committee, composed of regulatory and private practice racetrack veterinarians from across the country. This committee will offer guidance to HISA's executive team and standing committees on the development and refinement of regulations and protocols related to veterinary care, medication management, racetrack safety, equine research, and other critical topics.
"I am eager to hear the valuable insights the HISA Veterinary Advisory Committee will provide as we continue advancing our mission," said HISA CEO Lisa Lazarus. "Veterinarians play a vital role in the care of equine athletes, and their expertise will help us build a stronger, more effective system of support for the horses."
Dr. Jennifer Durenberger, HISA's Director of Equine Safety and Welfare, echoed this sentiment, stating, "By drawing on the knowledge of veterinarians nationwide, we aim to continually enhance best practices that prioritise equine health and safety. Every decision will be science-based and informed by the daily experiences of these dedicated professionals."
HISA is actively seeking qualified veterinarians to join the committee, which will consist of both regulatory and attending veterinarians from diverse backgrounds and regions. The committee will meet monthly to provide ongoing feedback, and interested candidates must submit applications by Oct. 25.
