Informed Patriot will compete in the Texas Derby instead of Preakness
Informed Patriot, who won the Bathhouse Row Stakes and qualified for the Preakness automatically, will not be competing in the middle leg of the Triple Crown.
Instead, the Hard Spun colt will be aimed at the Texas Derby at Lone Star Park on May 27, according to trainer Steve Asmussen, who made this announcement on "At the Races with Steve Byk".
After eight career starts, Informed Patriot's victory in the Bathhouse Row marked his second triumph. This year, he made two appearances in graded races and finished fifth in the Arkansas Derby (G3) and Sunland Park Derby (G3).
Track Phantom, who placed eleventh in Saturday's Kentucky Derby, will take a vacation and make a comeback in the fall, according to Asmussen.
After winning the Gun Runner and Grade 3 Lecomte, the Quality Road colt finished 10th on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard. He then finished second in the Risen Start (G2), losing by a half-length to Sierra Leone, and fourth in the Louisiana Derby (G2).
