Harness racing driver Jason Hughes enjoyed a stellar evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday, August 3, during Wilbur and Pauline MacDonald Memorial Night.
Hughes made multiple trips to the winner’s circle, securing five victories on the card. His notable wins included the $4,450 Preferred Pace with Blue Hunt (Huntsville), trained by Ashley Gamester and owned by Donald MacRae, Stephen Klunowski, and Daguet Racing LLC. Blue Hunt clocked a mile in 1:52.2, gearing up for the upcoming Gold Cup and Saucer trials.
In addition to Blue Hunt, Hughes also scored victories with Century Invictus (1:58), Mac Anover (1:56.4), and Silken Sweet (1:58.1), all trained by Gamester. His fifth win came with Abiding Art (2:00), trained by Kenny Arsenault.
Kenny Arsenault also had a successful night, securing three wins from his Charlottetown stable. Arsenault drove and trained One Wicked Man (1:57.4) and Bounty Hunter (1:53.4) in the Wilbur and Pauline MacDonald Memorial. The MacDonald family was present to award the cooler and trophy to Outrageous Show, driven by Brady Sweet, trained by Jeff Holmes, and owned by Paul Holmes of Warren Grove, PE. Outrageous Show finished in 1:55.1.
Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson each had a double, winning with Ashes To Ashes (1:55.4) and The Sports Desk (1:55.2).
Bob Loblaw, driven by Dale Spence and trained by Ken Middleton, won the Race 12 finale in 1:55, marking the pacer’s third consecutive victory.
