Jockeys are sent to a hospital in Indianapolis
Three jockeys were transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following an incident in the sixth race at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Wednesday.
The jockeys involved were Yarmarie Correa, Marcelino Pedroza Jr., and Santo Sanjur.
During the race, Willadean, ridden by Santo Sanjur, fell while entering the first turn. This led to two trailing horses—Jack’s Summer, with Pedroza, and Band of Roses, ridden by Correa—also falling. All horses eventually got back on their feet and were retrieved by outriders. Consequently, Race 6 was cancelled, with the remaining starters pulling up before the finish line.
The Shelbyville City Fire Department provided additional ambulances and support staff for transportation to Methodist Hospital. After a brief delay, the remaining races proceeded at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
