Lady Hess will try to continue her winning streak at Red Shores Racetrack

Lady Hess has been impressive in her rookie season and aims to continue her winning streak on Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 11-race card begins at 6 p.m., with the two-year-old Heston Blue Chip filly Lady Hess drawing the rail in race seven. Adam Merner will drive the Jamie Smith-trained horse for owner Groupof7 Stable of Charlottetown. Lady Hess broke her maiden on July 11 with a commanding 9-length victory in 1:59.2 over a sloppy track, closing with a :27.2 final quarter. She followed up with a dominant win in a $19,600 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division on July 17, finishing 5¾ lengths ahead in 1:57.4. Facing five rivals in her $2,600 race on Thursday, Lady Hess's main competitors include three-year-old Rockin In Heaven filly Brookdale Shelley, driven by Paul Langille from post two, and sophomore Bettors Delight filly Century Keyanna, driven by Brodie MacPhee from post four.

According to the Post Time Picks, Lady Hess is well-positioned to extend her winning streak: “She’s had a fantastic start to her career and performed well at Red Shores Summerside last time. Returning to Charlottetown, she’s expected to be on or near the lead throughout.”

In race five, the Grant Thornton Pace, Miss Wicked (Corey MacPherson) is the favourite from post two. Trained by Joe Baxter and owned by Blaine Thibeau of Kensington, P.E.I., the three-year-old McWicked filly has won her last two races, including the $16,125 Stanfield Memorial Stakes on July 7 in Truro, N.S.

The Fox Group sponsors two races on the program:

- In race nine, the $2,800 Fox Group Racing Event, Ill Tell Me Ma (Brett Leblanc) is the top pick for owner/trainer Scott Dunn of Montague, P.E.I.

- In race 11, the $2,900 Fox Group Racing Event, Elm Grove Redwine will seek her third consecutive win, with trainer/driver David Dowling at the helm for owners Alex Quinn, Carl Peterson, and Brittany Dowling.
