Logan Park returns to its peak
Logan Park (Archangel), who won the $36,000 Preferred-Handicap on Monday, May 27, regained the Woodbine Mohawk Park overnight harness racing trotting crown two weeks after suffering his only loss of the year.
The gelding shot forward from post seven under Doug McNair's rein, taking the lead around the first turn. After leading the field unopposed to the half in :55.4, Logan Park finished the first quarter in :27.2.
As the last turn approached, there was movement in the backfield, but the leader, who reached three-quarters in 1:24.3, had no opponents. In 1:52.4, Logan Park won by a margin of two and a quarter after he applied more pressure and surged ahead by three lengths.
Mrmayor Hanover (Jason Jamieson) rode a pocket trip to the finish line. It appears that Moni (James MacDonald) was ready for a three-across finish.
For trainer Kyle Fellows and owners Outofthepark Stable of Rockwood, Reg Higgs of Ilderton, and Arpad Szabo of Bradford, Logan Park is now two for three in 2024. The gelding finished the previous season's Woodbine Mohawk Park top class with 11 wins out of 15 runs, earning him the divisional O'Brien Award. The six-year-old has made $1,114,192 and won 26 of his 67 career starts.
Carm Auciello, the trainer, tripled on the card. He prevailed in Points North (Somebeachsomewhere, Jonathan Drury, 1:51), Thatll Be Tiger (Tigerama, Sylvain Filion, 1:50.1), and Rock And Twist (Sunshine Beach, Louis-Philippe Roy, 1:51.3), the first off the claim. For the season, the conditioner is 42 for 415.
