Lookinlikeamillion (Armbro Baylor) shattered the track record for a three-year-old gelding, capturing the 32nd Manitoba Futurity on Saturday, Sept. 7, at The Loop.
Driven by Richard Remillard, Lookinlikeamillion sat fourth through the first quarter in :28 before advancing in the breeze to the half in :58. He closed in on leader Chasin Rainbows (Daryl Mason) by the three-quarter mark in 1:29. Coming around the final turn, Lookinlikeamillion surged past the pacesetter and powered to a two-and-a-half-length victory in a career-best 2:01. Chasin Rainbows finished second, with Cartoon Kid (Marc Fillion) completing the triactor.
Following a fourth-place finish in last week’s Manitoba Great Western, Lookinlikeamillion now boasts five wins from 12 starts, with earnings of $28,448. Earlier this season, he won a division of the Golden Boy. Tara Isman trains and co-owns the gelding along with Dr. Valerie Isman and Garett Isman.
In the Kindergarten Stake, first-time starter Wood Morning (Mystician) set another track record, defeating Manitoba-bred rivals. Driver Michel Rey guided him to victory, chasing down loose leader Shady Roan (Clayton Braybrook) in the backstretch. Wood Morning edged past in the stretch for a half-length win in 2:04.2, breaking the previous record of 2:05.4 set by Cartoon Kid last year. Van Goghing Fast (Marc Fillion) finished third, more than 18 lengths behind.
Wood Morning, bred and owned by Kevin Hildebrandt and Aurel Vodon, qualified once at Century Downs before his impressive debut.
In the day’s Open race, Armycaptin Hanover (Captaintreacherous, Michel Rey) continued his winning streak with a determined first-over effort to beat Yru So Sirius (Glenn Le Drew) in 1:59.3. Trained by Richard Rey for owner Laverne Turnbull, Armycaptin Hanover now has 48 career wins and $338,251 in earnings.
Racing at The Loop resumes on Saturday, Sept. 14.
