Turfway Park wrapped up its 50-day winter/spring meet on Saturday, with a remarkable 17.1 percent surge in all-sources handle and a total of $18.8 million in prize money distributed to participants.
Overall, the meet saw a staggering $170 million in wagers, surpassing last year's total by almost $25 million. In addition to a substantial boost in prize money, the participants who competed at Turfway Park received a generous sum of $18.8 million spread out over 438 races. Purses consist of money from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund. Turfway Park had an extended operating schedule compared to the previous year, resulting in a significant rise of 152 participants.
Jockey Luan Machado showcased his exceptional skills in the rider standings during the winter/spring meet, achieving an impressive 62 victories out of 289 starts. Machado's impressive victory margin over runner-up Gerardo Corrales was a staggering 25 wins, while his talented mounts managed to accumulate an amazing $2.3 million in earnings.
