Moira proved herself among the best turf mares in North America with a strong second-place finish in the Diana Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on July 13. The 5-year-old mare, making her first start since the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, showed her talent with a brilliant rally under jockey Tyler Gaffalione.
Trained by Kevin Attard, Moira had been in training since arriving at Woodbine from Kentucky in the spring. Sold at the Night of the Stars sale last November for $3 million, Moira is now owned by Madaket Stable, SF Bloodstock, and Lanni Bloodstock. Despite starting from post 1 in a tough field, Moira settled along the rail and made a strong move to finish second to Whitebeam.
Gaffalione was impressed with Moira's performance, especially considering the slow pace of the race. Attard agreed, saying she showed she belonged among top turf mares and should improve with more races under her belt. With a record of 15-5-5-2 and earnings of $1,513,999, Moira is proving to be a talented competitor in the turf division.
