Moira Sells for $4.3 Million to Yulong Investments
Ontario-bred star Moira, a cherished figure in Canadian horse racing, marked a week of extraordinary achievements with a Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf victory and subsequent sale for $4.3 million to Yulong Investments. Her trainer, Kevin Attard, fought back emotions as Moira, his most celebrated trainee, transitioned to her new life in Australia’s prestigious Yulong facility.
Just two days prior to her sale, Moira triumphed at the Breeders' Cup, becoming only the seventh Canadian-bred to claim victory at the world championships. It was a historic Grade 1 win for the six-year-old mare, who had previously been retained by her ownership group for $3 million in 2023. This year, her accomplishments brought her lifetime earnings to nearly $3 million.
Purchased through online bidding, Yulong Investments secured Moira for their top-tier broodmare and stallion program. While her sale brought joy and pride, it was a bittersweet moment for Attard and X-Men Racing, including partners David Anderson and Donato Lanni. They celebrated with mixed emotions, joined by American partners Sol Kumin and Tom Ryan.
Reflecting on Moira's career, Attard fondly recalled her Queen’s Plate win, other stakes titles, and her immense popularity. He noted the support of his team, including rider Korina McLean and groom Peter Lopez, who cared for Moira daily. "She won me my first Plate, my first Breeders' Cup. I’ll miss her deeply," he shared, adding that he hopes to continue reaching new milestones in racing.
