A stalwart presence atop Woodbine's jockey standings, Kazushi Kimura's reputation now extends globally. Steering his career's trajectory is his new agent, Tom Patton.
Having dominated Woodbine's jockey standings for the past three years, KAZUSHI KIMURA has opted for a change. The rising star from Japan, gaining recognition beyond borders, has enlisted Tom Patton as his agent, succeeding Jordan Miller.
Miller had steered Kimura's career since the young rider's sensational debut at Woodbine in 2018, securing consecutive Sovereign Awards for Outstanding Apprentice and an Eclipse Award for Top Apprentice. Kimura's ascent continued as a journeyman, clinching the top spot in wins for 2021, 2022, and 2023, earning Sovereigns for Outstanding Jockey each year.
In 2023, Kimura matched his previous year's win tally at 175, setting a personal record for career earnings at $8.7 million. His prowess extended to the California circuit during winters, securing graded stakes victories under the tutelage of premier U.S. trainers.
In May, Kimura piloted Bob Baffert's Mr. Fisk to triumph in the Hollywood Gold Cup (G2).
Patton, renowned for steering the careers of luminaries like Patrick Husbands, Eurico Rosa da Silva, and Jono Jones, returned to agenting this spring following a year-long hiatus. Patton now represents promising apprentice Pietro Moran.
"I eagerly anticipate the upcoming season and collaborating with Kazushi," said Patton, hailing from a lineage deeply rooted in the equestrian world, including his father-trainer Tom and sister Kathy. "Jordan has done commendable work with Kazushi."
Patton spent the past year spearheading the launch and marketing of the new King Animal Hospital, and with the veterinary facility now established, he is thrilled to re-immerse himself in the track milieu.
"I relish the competitive spirit, the outdoor ambience, and every facet of the sport. Each night, I indulge in race replays and nurture bonds with diverse trainers."
Rhode Island-born but a Canadian citizen, Patton has shepherded riders to 11 Sovereign Awards. "I've been blessed along this journey. Both Kazushi and Pietro exude youthful ambition."
Presently, Kimura boasts 12 wins at Woodbine this year, trailing leader Rafael Hernandez by seven.
