Oceanview Rumours Seeks Fifth Consecutive Victory in P.E.I. Colt Stakes

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Canada’s oldest Standardbred Stakes event returns Thursday evening as Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park hosts the trotting divisions of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes. The 12-race card is set to begin at 6 P.M.

Oceanview Rumours (Green Manalishi), undefeated in her last four starts, including two track record-setting performances, will start from post 3 in a $18,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes division for two-year-old trotting fillies. Adam Merner will drive the rookie filly, trained by Melissa Rennie and owned by Bill Roloson, Scott Roloson, and Joey Aylward. Other top contenders include Oceanview Nikki (driven by Mike McGuigan) with the inside rail and Supreme Rockette (Gilles Barrieau) starting from post 7.

Race 2 features an $18,120 division for three-year-old trotting fillies in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes. Oceanview Daisy (Myles Heffernan Sr.) starts from post 1 as the favourite, trained by Myles Heffernan Jr. for owners Jackie Heffernan and Barry MacLeod. Her main competition includes Dusty Lane Wee (Marc Campbell) from post 2 and Gettin Tipsy (McGuigan) from post 5.

In Race 5, Bless Me Father will go for his third consecutive victory in the $18,500 two-year-old trotting colt division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes. Marc Campbell will pilot the son of Father Patrick, trained by Landon Campbell and owned by Donna Van Meer. He faces a field of seven, including Dusty Lane Gus (Adam Merner) and Fire The Rocket (Jason Hughes).

The three-year-old trotting colts take to the track in Race 7, competing for an $18,120 purse. Gettin Lit, with trainer-driver McGuigan, is the top choice from post 5, coming off two straight wins for owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale. Camco Laraido (Ken Murphy) from post 2 and Rocket Blast (Corey MacPherson) from post 4 are also strong contenders.

In Race 6, Woodmere Clara (Clare MacDonald) is the favorite in the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada Atlantic Division pace.
