Perfetto’s performance was perfect

In the highlighted event of Monday's (June 10) evening card at Woodbine Mohawk Park, the $28,000 conditioned trot saw a thrilling performance by Perfetto, who surged to victory in a tight finish.

Walk On The Moon, steered by Jonathan Drury, led the field after a swift opening quarter in :26.1 and maintained control with fractions of :55.2 and 1:23.4. Perfetto, with Dagfin Henriksen in the sulky, settled in third initially but gradually closed the gap to second by the halfway mark. As the race progressed, Southwind Coors, driven by Chris Christoforou, made a bid for second position at the three-quarters. However, Perfetto and Henriksen launched a determined challenge against Walk On The Moon in the stretch. In a thrilling photo finish, Perfetto clinched victory by a neck, crossing the line in 1:53.2. Walk On The Moon settled for second, while Kevin Anthony, piloted by Trevor Henry, secured third place.

Perfetto, a nine-year-old gelding sired by Majestic Son out of Perfect Prelude, is owned by Gerald Haggerty. This win marked his third victory in 13 starts this year and his 31st career win out of 133 starts, boosting his lifetime earnings to an impressive $900,481. The seasoned trotter paid $9.90 to win from odds of 4-1.

On a sombre note from the evening's events, Tokyo Seelster suffered a catastrophic injury during the seventh race and was euthanised. Standardbred Canada extends condolences to the connections of Tokyo Seelster.
