Scott Zeron triumphed at Woodbine

Scott Zeron had a remarkable night at Woodbine Mohawk Park on August 31, 2024, as he captured both the Canadian Pacing Derby and the Maple Leaf Trot. Zeron drove the four-year-old gelding Its My Show to victory in the $540,000 Canadian Pacing Derby, where he displayed impressive racing skills and strategy. After settling into second early on, Zeron made a decisive move when he found daylight in the final stretch, allowing Its My Show to edge out Abuckabett Hanover by a nose, finishing in a time of 1:48.1. This victory marked Zeron's first win in the Canadian Pacing Derby, complementing his past successes with trainer Linda Toscano and the horse, which accrued impressive earnings of over $1.7 million.

Immediately after his success with Its My Show, Zeron switched gears to the trot, guiding Periculum to victory in the $600,000 Maple Leaf Trot. Despite starting from post five and not being on the pylons, Zeron's strategy paid off as he patiently tracked the pacesetters before unleashing Periculum's speed. The five-year-old trotter won decisively with a two-length margin over stablemate Oh Well. This victory was significant not just for Zeron, but also for trainer Marcus Melander, as it represented Periculum's biggest career win to date, boosting his lifetime earnings to over $863,000.

Overall, Zeron's evening was a celebration of his return to familiar territory, as he embraced the thrill of winning with talented horses and strong connections, solidifying his reputation in the sport.
