After a filly under his care tested positive for the acepromazine on Thursday, trainer Christophe Clement was placed on a seven-day suspension.
In addition, a $1,000 fine and two penalty points were assessed by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit. Paulick Report first reported on the activity.
The 3-year-old Zoustar daughter, Mizoula, tested positive for the restricted chemical sedative on March 3 at Gulfstream Park following her second-place performance in a maiden special weight competition. The purse money was ordered to be refunded, and she was disqualified from the race.
The filly had made three career starts before that one. She has been training at Saratoga since finishing sixth in a maiden special weight race at Keeneland on April 5.
Paulick Report was informed by Clement that Mizoula was not purposefully given the sedative and that the discovery had to be the consequence of contamination at the track or an error in the barn. However, he claimed that challenging the fines would be "too complicated and expensive."
Thoroughbredrulings.com, as pointed out by Paulick Report, only records one prior medication infraction for Clement, which was the discovery of omeprazole sulfide, an anti-ulcer drug, in a horse in 2010.
