Sunshine Lou sets a new seasonal racing mark

Sunshine Lou (Sunshine Beach) went wire-to-wire in the Winners-Over at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday (Aug. 21), setting a new seasonal harness racing mark. Driven by Campbell MacIsaac, the gelding surged from the rail to take a commanding four-length lead at the quarter in :29.1. Windemere Best Man (John MacDonald) challenged first-over but could only keep pace as Sunshine Lou maintained control through fractions of :59.1 and 1:28.3, carrying a three-length advantage into the stretch.

Despite late efforts from the chasing pack, Sunshine Lou held firm, crossing the line in 1:57.4 with a length-and-three-quarters to spare. Yacht Seelster (Zach Mullins) made a strong late move to finish third, while Rotten Ronnie (Redmond Doucet) narrowly secured fourth over Saulsbrook Feisty (Keith Legge).

With this victory, Sunshine Lou improves to four wins in 14 starts this season for trainer Ray Mackinnon, who co-owns the eight-year-old gelding with Leah Mackinnon. Sunshine Lou has now earned $68,123 and boasts 23 wins in 118 career starts.

Inverness Raceway’s next race card is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, marking the final midweek event of the season before the track switches to Sunday racing in September and October.
