In just her fourth start as a trainer, Tess Waxman secured her first career harness racing victory on Tuesday, July 15th at Georgian Downs. Piloting Capt Jack Hanover, whom she took on as a trainee just two weeks prior, the duo briefly settled in the pocket before making a move to the front before the halfway mark. With Colin Kelly in the driver's seat, Capt Jack Hanover held off all challengers to cross the finish line first in 1:55.3, securing a length-and-a-half victory.
Waxman had made her training debut at Georgian on July 6th with Oakwood Cowboy Ir, finishing sixth. However, it was Capt Jack Hanover that brought her the first taste of victory just three days later. Owned by Claude Baril of Mascouche, Capt Jack Hanover was claimed by Baril in May and sent to Waxman at the end of June. With this win, the six-year-old gelding now boasts a record of 17 wins out of 83 races, with earnings totalling $234,891.
The next racing card at Georgian Downs is set for Saturday, July 20th.
