The benchmark for racing tracks worldwide

Santa Anita Park concluded its Winter-Spring season with an impressive 99.97% safety record, marking one of the highest safety standards among tracks with similar schedules globally. This six-month season, running from September through June, saw a total of 6,678 horses competing on the track's dirt and turf courses. The track's Chief Veterinary Officer for 1/ST Racing, Dionne Benson, highlighted the extensive safety measures and veterinary examinations that contributed to this record.

Benson emphasised the rigorous scrutiny horses underwent, with nearly 6,400 pre-race veterinary examinations conducted since September 1 of the previous year. She noted that this increased vigilance provided more opportunities to ensure the best interest of the horses. Benson also pointed out that the implementation of the Horse racing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) protocols, many of which were based on Santa Anita Park and California standards, has led to improved safety in horse racing nationwide.
