Tim and Lisa Turney - TOBA September Members

Tim and Lisa Turney have long been influential figures in the Kentucky racing industry. This September, they are recognised as the TOBA Members of the Month for their contributions and recent accomplishments, particularly highlighted by their work with the successful colt, Neat.

Neat, a three-time graded stakes winner this year, was consigned by the Turneys at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The son of Constitution and bred by Hidden Brook and Spruce Lane Farms was sold for $200,000 to Red White & Blue Racing. Neat quickly made his mark, winning the Bob Bork Texas Turf Mile Stakes by an impressive 5 ½ lengths in his three-year-old debut. He went on to secure victories in the Transylvania Stakes (G3T) and the Manila Stakes (G3T), further establishing his prowess on the racetrack.

Tim Turney's journey to the heart of Kentucky racing began unexpectedly. After earning a degree in animal science, he found his way to Kentucky after a serendipitous encounter with a stranger at a bar. This encounter led him to work for the esteemed Ben Walden Sr. Just two years later, on the same day he arrived, Tim married Lisa, who has deep roots in the horse industry. Raised on her father's farm in Kentucky, Lisa holds a degree in microbiology from Notre Dame and harbours a profound love for horse breeding, particularly for foals.

Since 1993, the Turneys have operated Shamrock Glen Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. Their initial plan was to rent a farm for a few years before making a permanent move, but they ultimately decided to purchase a property, leading to significant growth over the years. Today, their farm spans approximately 156 acres and hosts around 75 to 80 mares, yearlings, and layup horses, with a significant portion owned by loyal clients who have become friends.

Tim and Lisa's client roster includes notable names in the industry, such as William Warren and his son, Andrew, both of whom have bred and owned numerous champions. Their strong relationships with clients are a testament to their values; they prioritize building friendships over mere business ties.

Neat is just one of many success stories from Shamrock Glen Farm. Tim reflects on their journey, crediting their achievements to the support of their clients and mentors in the industry. He acknowledges the importance of community and the countless individuals who have influenced their path.

As September Members of the Month, Tim and Lisa Turney exemplify dedication, passion, and the spirit of collaboration that defines the horse racing community, making significant contributions to the industry's legacy.
