Top PEI mares will compete on Thursday

Charlottetown, Pennsylvania In the Thursday evening (May 16) Fillies and Mares Preferred at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, Tobins Brownie (Stonebridge Terror) will try to win her second consecutive harness racing race.

Starting at 6 p.m., the Capital Oval will host a nine-dash program that will include race 8 showcasing the best pacing mares on the Eastern Seaboard.

In the $3,700 Race 8 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace, Share the Moment (Control the Moment) is the morning line favourite from post 1. Trainer Bo Ford, owners Luke Beck, Scott Bridges, and Arnold Myers, have Gilles Barrieau riding the race bike. In her first race of the year against Tobins Brownie, the lass lost as the post-time favourite.

Trainer Ellen Stevenson is driven by Dr. Mitchell Downey to drive The Ideal Huntress from post 2. The Huntsville pacer, a former claiming mare on the Woodbine circuit, has 14 lifetime victories and a time of 1:50.4.

After winning her debut in this class on May 4, Chelski, who was hot out of the Jennifer Doyle barn in 2023, will make her third start on Thursday. From post 3, Damian MacLellan will drive.

After winning on the front end of a muddy track last week, Tobins Brownie has moved up to post 4, marking her 31st career victory for trainer-driver David Dowling.

Rosetown Mary, who will have post 5 to work from this week, was impressive in her debut, switching the field from last to win for trainer-driver Corey MacPherson.

Adam Merner, riding for trainer Melissa Rennie, completes the field for Ms. Moyse at post 6.

The Post Time Picks are going with Rosetown Mary to show her late sprint to the finish and get it all. “We picked Rosetown Mary to win last week and she delivered big time cruising to victory by four lengths. Bumps up the ladder and can really fly home so she could double up at Red Shores.”
