Travis Henry Secures Triple Victory at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Travis Henry demonstrated exceptional prowess in the harness racing circuit by clinching victory thrice on Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The first triumph occurred in the initial race with the impressive Lexus Angel, a three-year-old filly sired by Archangel. Seizing the lead right from the start, she swiftly established a commanding advantage of over two lengths with a swift 28.3 opening quarter.

Despite a valiant effort by Looks Like Magic, driven by St. Pierre Denis, the favourite maintained its lead with a solid 30.1 second panel. Lexus Angel concluded the race with a remarkable 28.3 final quarter, clocking a commendable time of 1:57 for the mile. Marking a significant milestone, Lexus Angel secured her maiden career victory in just her second race under the expert tutelage of Shannon Henry.

Henry's second win materialised in the third race with Gimme A Corona, a contender sired by Control The Moment. The Turning Point, steered by James Macdonald, initially led the charge with a swift 27.2 opening quarter. While Littlebearcat, under the guidance of Doug McNair, maintained a close position, Gimme A Corona initially settled for fourth place.

As the halfway mark approached with The Turning Point still in the lead at a time of 57.4, Gimme A Corona launched a strategic manoeuvre in the final stretch. Navigating through a tight space and requiring a swift 26.3 closing quarter, Gimme A Corona clinched victory by a mere nose. Despite a fierce effort by The Turning Point, the contender secured a respectable second place, while Littlebearcat held on to secure third. The four-year-old mare is owned by Laverne Turnbull and trained by Meg Crone.

The third victory for Henry unfolded in the sixth race with Captain Wania, a three-year-old trotter causing a significant 14-1 upset. Positioning himself strategically behind the favourite, Enchanted Angel, steered by Mark Etsell, Captain Wania patiently waited for his moment to shine. Enchanted Angel maintained the lead up to the final stretch, setting impressive fractions of 27.4, 59.2, and 1:26.4.

However, in a thrilling conclusion, Captain Wania surged past in the deep stretch, securing victory by a slender margin. The triumphant trotter concluded the race with a swift 27.4 final quarter, recording an impressive time of 1:57.1 for the mile. Captain Wania, taking six starts to secure his maiden win, added another accolade to Shannon Henry's successful night.
