Tribute to Armbro Warranty
The owners of the esteemed Ontario stakes champion Armbro Warranty have announced the passing of the veteran pacing stallion on February 20, 2024, at the age of 25.
Purchased by Petrina Lawrence as a yearling for $17,000 at the 2000 Forest City Sale, Armbro Warranty carved out an impressive career, amassing 49 wins, 38 seconds, and 33 thirds from 251 starts. His racing endeavours saw him accrue $722,295 in earnings.
Sired by Village Jiffy and out of the Slapstick mare Vivian Lobell, his final race was in 2010 before retiring to Lawrence's farm in Rodney, Ont. Over the years, he sired a few foals, leaving a lasting legacy at the farm.
Armbro Warranty predominantly trained under former co-owner Fred Logan, Alan Logan, and later Russell Gowan and Charles Rohde Jr.
As an Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) graduate, he set a remarkable mark of 1:50.3 at Woodbine Racetrack during a Gold elimination race as a three-year-old in 2002, establishing an OSS record at the time. Apart from his OSS triumphs, highlights of Armbro Warranty's career include clinching the Flamboro Downs Breeders Stakes and participating in the prestigious 2003 Gold Cup & Saucer event. Following this, he competed in various Open and Preferred races at tracks across the province until his retirement.
Reflecting on his passing, Lawrence fondly remembered Armbro Warranty as a horse with a delightful demeanour and a strong personality.
"He was just a really good, sweet horse with a huge personality. He was really a pleasure to be around,"
she expressed, noting that he will be dearly missed.
