Uncontrollable Takes the Lead in 3R Preferred

On Sunday, May 12, at Hippodrome 3R, driver Marie-Claude Auger masterfully guided six-year-old gelding Uncontrollable to a wire-to-wire win in the $5,000 Preferred Pace, the main event.

Beginning at post five, Auger and Uncontrollable took the lead right away and never looked back, setting fractions of :29.1, :59.1, and 1:27.4 on their way to a 1:57.1 triumph by three-quarters of a length over last week’s top class winner, Thedoginthefight (Jocelyn Gendron), with favourite Born A Rebel (Jessica Turenne) finishing third.

After making seven starts this year, Uncontrollable got his second win of the year. With earnings just shy of $150,000, he now has twelve wins overall. Louis-Philippe Turcotte is the trainer for Control The Moment's kid, who is owned by Steve Perreault and Johanne Dechamplain of Mont-Joli, Quebec. Uncontrollable, the 5-1 fourth choice on the toteboard, won and paid $12.40.

Following back-to-back wins in races three and four with her own trainees Windsun Diego and Sensi Amnesia, Auger scored her third race feature victory of the day. Auger tied for the place in the early rankings with reigning driving champion Pascal Berube, who won four more today after securing a double on opening day last week, giving her five wins at the 2024 competition.

In the seventh race trot, the 3R toteboard was rocked by a 43-1 longshot. La Bromontoise managed to maintain the lead throughout, winning by two and a half lengths in 2:00.2, which matched her lifetime best. The five-year-old Bromont, Quebec, homebred Angus Hall mare belongs to her driver and trainer, Jerome Lombart. This year, she won her first three starts and gave her backers $88 at the betting windows.

On Sunday, May 19, live harness racing will return to Hippodrome 3R. The first race will be posted at noon.
