In a stunning turn of events at Bally's Dover on Wednesday night (Feb. 21), Jody, with patience as her ally, orchestrated a remarkable upset in the prestigious $21,622 winners-over event for distaff pacers, with odds of 12-1 defying expectations.
The race kicked off with Tae making a bold move early on, seizing the lead and compelling Southwind Icenfire, Jody, and Lyons Bettorday to swiftly find their positions as they approached the quarter pole. Tae dictated the pace with fractions of :27, :55.2, and 1:23, remaining unchallenged until Jody made a decisive move first-over beyond the three-quarter pole. Lyons Bettorday strategically followed suit, while the favourite, Southwind Icenfire, stayed tucked in the pocket but showed signs of faltering.
Jody's late surge in the homestretch saw her inch ahead of Tae by a mere head, crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 1:51.4. Lyons Bettorday made a commendable effort to secure third place.
Under the expert guidance of driver Allan Davis, Jody, a descendant of Betterthancheddar, paid out $26.40 for the win. Trainer Wayne Givens and owner Reginald Hazzard celebrated the triumph, marking a memorable night of racing at Bally's Dover.
