Wonderful memories are lost

Great Memories (Apaches Fame), a distinguished member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, has sadly left us at the age of 23.

Rockwood, Ontario, is the home of Warrawee Farm, a renowned breeder who has won the prestigious O'Brien Award. Glengate Farms bred Great Memories, a descendant of Apaches Fame and the progeny of the Armbro Emerson mare Save The Memories. Great Memories was a filly that Kenneth Fraser and Duane Marfisi bought as a yearling and who also served as her trainers. When she was only three years old, an injury tragically ended her racing career.

Two world champions have emerged from Great Memories' lineage: Warrawee Needy and Warrawee Ubeaut. Carl Jamieson trained Warrawee Needy, who was a superb racehorse. With an impressive record of 29 victories and earnings exceeding $1.25 million, this horse displayed incredible speed throughout its career.

At just two years old, it achieved a remarkable time of 1:49.4s, which was further surpassed at three years old with a time of 1:48.4s. However, it was at the age of four that Warrawee Needy truly stood out as the fastest horse in the world, clocking an astonishing time of 1:46.4. Warrawee Needy, the recipient of the prestigious 2011 O'Brien Award for two-year-old pacing colts/geldings, displayed an unrivalled dominance during his debut season.
