On Tuesday, April 23, Woodbine Entertainment and the Central Ontario Standardbred Association (COSA) jointly announced that they had reached an agreement on a new three-year contract that will see increases to purses and annual capital investments.
Michael Copeland, CEO of Woodbine, stated that they are very happy to extend the strong partnership they have with COSA and its members. Woodbine is the leading Standardbred racetrack in North America, and they take great pride in their steadfast dedication to the entire Ontario racing community.
Woodbine will continue to make yearly capital improvements to Woodbine Mohawk Park as part of the new agreement. Moreover, purses will rise by $700,000 for each contract year.
The new agreement with Woodbine is fantastic, said COSA President Bill O'Donnell. Over the years, there has been a positive and fruitful partnership between our two sides. It is still clear as we start this new arrangement that having a top-notch racing industry and product is one of our priorities.
Throughout its relationship with Woodbine, COSA has actively sponsored important initiatives and events, including several Breeders Crown competitions.
The 2024 race schedule at Woodbine Mohawk Park presently consists of 222 dates. Monday through Saturday are the days for live harness racing. In June, Tuesdays will be included in the live racing program. Every evening, post time is 7:10 p.m.
